Organisation of official controls

The Directorate Health and Food Audits and Analysis of the DG Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) carry out community audits, inspections and related non-audit activities in the Member States to ensure that EU legislation on food and feed safety, animal health, animal welfare and plant health is properly implemented and enforced. To support its control and monitoring activities in the EU, this Directorate uses Country Profiles which are compilations of key information for each Member State. The Country Profile includes, among other things, an overview of how control systems for food and feed safety, animal health, animal welfare and plant health are organized in the Member State. It is based on information supplied by the Member State and drawn into a standardised format by the DG Health and Food Safety. Given its content, there is an overlap of information in the Country Profile and the Multi Annual National Control Plan , and therefore the latter is also used by the Commission’s services to facilitate and prepare their activities in the Member States.
