Animal feed

Animal feed includes all substances and products, including premixtures, feed materials and additives, processed, partially processed or unprocessed for use in oral feeding to animals. These animals can be farm animals (e.g. cattle, chickens, pigs) intended for the production of meat, eggs or milk, but also pet animals (e.g. dogs, cats, ornamental birds). Third countries may request health or veterinary certificates for the impot of animal feed. The sanitary requirements for feed for farm animals and pet animals are often different, and therefore different health or veterinary certificates often apply. The animal feed can include both products of non-animal origin and products of animal origin, including processed animal by-products, such as dairy products, eggs and processed animal proteins.

In the case of export of processed animal proteins or products containing processed animal proteins, the restrictions imposed by EU legislation in the context of TSE control (Regulation (EC) No 999/2001) apply in addition to the sanitary requirements imposed by third countries.

Certificates for the export of animal feed to third countries, which can be issued by the FASFC, can be found in this section.
