Plant products

Unlike for foodstuffs of animal origin, there is no specific regulation for foodstuffs of plant origin. Nevertheless, the European legislation has harmonized the requirements regarding several issues, such as residues of pesticides and the presence of GMOs.

At the national level, a Royal decree on “plants” specifies the plants (or parts of plants) that can be consumed and, when appropriate, in what amount their compounds may be present in some foodstuffs.
