Microbiological contaminants

EU legislation

Some microbiological contaminants in certain foodstuffs are regulated by the European Commission: Commission regulation (EC) N° 2073/2005 of 15 November 2005 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs.

Belgian legislation

  • Royal Decree of 26 April 2009 on microbiological criteria for foodstuffs regulates some process hygiene criteria for certain foodstuffs.
  • Royal Decree of 4 February 2024 on the quality of water intended for human consumption which is packaged or which is used in food processing establishments in the manufacture and/or commercial preparation of food products.
  • Royal Decree of 8 February 1999 on natural mineral water and spring water.
