On the 22th of March 2024, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) approved and published the Belgium’s self-declaration to regain its status as free of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus in poultry.

See also Situation in Belgium”.

The confirmation of the HPAI virus presence in a professional holding might have an impact on export of commodities like birds, day old chicks, poultry meat, eggs and animal feed containing poultry products to certain trading partners. The FASFC will respect the conditions with regards to HPAI laid down in bilateral certificates and protocols signed with importing countries.

Belgium applies regionalization according to the European legislation.

As all the necessary measures in line with national, European and international legislation as well as international guidelines are taken, we want to ensure our trading partners that safe trade in poultry meat and poultry products between Belgium and other countries is still possible.
