The legal framework regarding the identification and registration of rabbits is laid down in the Royal Decree of 21 July 2018 on the identification and registration of poultry, rabbits and certain backyard poultry.
The I&R obligations for rabbits consist of:
- Holding registration in SANITEL:
- All holding with rabbits active in the food chain.
- Record keeping at farm in an inventory for 5 years, per group (flock):
- Of all animals being introduced in the holding;
- Of all animals leaving the holding;
- Number of deaths: number per week;
- Movement records by ‘movement document’:
- For each transport between holdings:
- Holding to holding;
- Holding to slaughterhouse.
- Made up by transporter and registered into the SANITEL database:
- Via a paper way system and sending copy to the animal health services for input in SANITEL;
- By Internet system: registration done by the transporter himself.
- For each transport between holdings:
