The legal framework regarding the identification and registration of horses is laid down in:
- Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2015/262, laying down the methods for the identification of equidae;
- Royal Decree of 16 February 2016.
The I&R of each individual horse consist of:
- A unique microchip;
- An individual passport, containing a graphical description of the horse;
- The registration in a central database of the Belgian Horse Confederation.
